IMDEX 2019: MBDA’s MMP Goes to Sea

"Grey" naval MMP on MBDA stand at IMDEX Asia 2019
At IMDEX Asia 2019, MBDA is showcasing for the first time a "grey" MMP model. This is to illustrate that the 5th generation ground combat missile is now being proposed as a naval system too.

This new new  naval  offering based  on  the MMP was first unveiled at Euronaval 2018, following an operational evaluation  campaign carried out in the summer of 2018 by the French special forces in Djibouti.

The campaign confirmed the reliability and operational performance of the MMP system in a hot environment, both from the ground and also from a rigid hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) moving at high speed.

A total of nine MMP missiles were fired with all reaching their target. Two of these shots were fired by the maritime force of marines and commandos from a ECUME RHIB. A first firing from the sea-to- land and the second from sea-to-sea have demonstrated the ease of use of the MMP.

The  success  of  this  evaluation  allowed  MBDA  to  extend  the integration  perspectives  of  the  MMP system  and  to  propose  it  on  fast  attack  craft  or  semi-rigid  boats  for  missions  against  hostile  ships, coastal  defenses  or  armored  vehicles,  especially  in  support  of  a  landing  of  small  units  or  Special Forces.

In addition to the MMP model, MBDA is showcasing a simulator allowing visitors to test the quad-launcher turreted variant against targets at sea and on land.
