With the Bergamini-class FREMM Frigate of the Italian Navy as its parent design, Fincanteri’s FFG(X) is 496 feet in length and 65 feet wide.

It can reach a sustained speed of 26+ knots and an economic speed of 16+ knots thanks to its CODLAG propulsion system. The design has a range of 6,000+ nautical miles at a speed of 16 knots. The vessel can accommodate up to 200 sailors.

According to Fincantieri, their FFG(X) design can leverage artificial intelligence to support condition-based maintenance which reduces unnecessary expenditures, maintenance costs and sailors workload.

The bridge is designed using human factors to improve situational awareness and watch stander performance.

The flexible hybrid engineering of the ship provides energy efficient diesel power generation for propulsion at normal steaming speeds while contributing greatly to anti-submarine capability in an extremely quiet diesel-electric configuration.

The enhanced accommodations increase the quality of life, comfort and rest. All this contributes to the crew’s operational effectiveness. Fincantieri’s FFG(X) design replaces the outdated 30-person plus bunkroom style accommodations and will be redesigned to stateroom standards to include toilet and shower facilities.

The design can accommodate up to 16x anti-ship missiles (8x shown on this model)
