Video: China celebrated PLAN’s 70th Anniversary with Large Fleet Review

32 Chinese vessels participated in a naval parade, April 23, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy). Close to twenty foreign vessels were also invited to take part in the fleet review.

The fleet review, which took place in less than ideal weather conditions, was held in presence of Chinese president Xi Jinping, featured some of the latest additions to the rapidly growing PLAN’s fleet, including the type 055 destroyer and Type 094A nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN).

The event started with the submarine force of the PLAN, including Type 094A SSBN, Type 093 SSN and Type 039 SSK.

The submarines where followed by a group of PLAN destroyers, consisting in the Type 055 “Nanchang” which was making its official public appearance for the very first time, Type 052D “Guiyang” and “Taiyuan”, Type 052C “Changchun” and “Haikou”, Type 052B “Wuhan” and Type 051C “Shijiazhuang”

Several PLAN auxiliary vessels were present, including the largest one of all, Type 901 fast combat support ship “Hulunhu”

And behind the fog, the Chinese aircraft carrier strike group led by the Liaoning aircraft carrier, and its escort… The fly past appears to have been canceled because of the weather conditions.

About 20 warships from more than 10 countries were invited to take part in the fleet review:
