According to the , the new ship is more sophisticated compared to the previous platform of the class, ‘Ivan Gren’.

“Each following ship of the project — two platforms are now being built at the Yantar Shipyard — will be more modern compared to the type ship, ‘Ivan Gren’, in terms of performance. The adoption of the ‘Petr Morgunov’ apparently shows that the process of the Navy’s armament with green water ships is ongoing, and our industry has mastered the construction of such platforms. The Project 11711 ships will dramatically enhance the landing capabilities of the Navy,”

Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov

“The ‘Petr Morgunov’ is set to start the voyage to its home base within the Northern Fleet in early 2021,” noted the admiral.

According to the commander of the ‘Petr Morgunov’ Captain 2nd Rank Vyacheslav Solovyev, the crew of the ship has been fully trained to accomplish its goals.

The Project 11711 large landing ship ‘Petr Morgunov’ was launched in May 2018.

The type ship of the class, ‘Ivan Gren’ was handed over to the Navy in June 2018. Since April 2019, the Yantar Shipyard has been constructing two more ships of the class, ‘Vladimir Andreyev’ and ‘Vasiliy Trushin’.
