Russia’s Caspian Flotilla ships fire Kalibr cruise missiles in drills

A Russian Navy Caspian Flotilla surface action group has fired Kalibr-NK (NATO reporting name: SS-N-27 Sizzler) cruise missiles against coastal targets during an exercise, the Southern Military District’s press office said.

The Southern Military District’s press office said:

“The Caspian Flotilla surface action group fired Kalibr-NK cruise missiles against coastal targets from the Caspian Sea during a planned tactical exercise within the framework of a final check of skills gained in the 2021 training year. All the targets on the Chechen Island in the Caspian Sea were hit,”

The missiles were fired by the Project 21631 corvette Veliky Ustyug (NATO reporting name: Buyan-M class). The Grad Sviyazhsk and Uglich same-type corvettes performed simulated missile launches.

The live-firing exercise was supervised by the Project 11661 missile ship Dagestan (Gepard-class).
