Turkish defense company Aselsan completed sea trials onboard Turkish Navy vessels of the brand-new IFF (Identifying Friend or Foe) Mod 5/S system.

Turkey’s leading defense supplier, Aselsan, has successfully tested its IFF Mod 5/S system onboard Yavuz-class frigates, Kilic II-class quick attack craft, and Tuzla-class patrol boats, according to Turkey’s state-owned Anadolu Agency.

In 2018, the Turkish Defense Industries Presidency (SSB) and ASELSAN signed a contract to develop, mass-produce, and integrate IFF Mod 5/S responder, short-medium-range interrogator, long-range interrogator, and combined interrogator-responder systems with platforms to meet the needs of Turkish Air and Naval Forces commands.

IFF Mode 5/S Interrogator and Responder integration is being carried out on a variety of naval platforms as part of the project, which is the most extensive modernization project with the Naval Forces Command in terms of platform quantity and design solution diversity.

Within the framework of the contract, friend-foe identification and identification systems are developed and made available to security forces, allowing for the quick and accurate identification of friendly platforms performing their responsibilities through the interrogating and answering approach.

IFF Mode 5/S outperforms prior modes with features such as questioning from a greater distance, increased resistance to eavesdropping, jamming, and deception, high identification capabilities, and the employment of a national crypto device.
