On Wednesday, May 25, firing tests of the SALVO armed Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), which is of great importance to our country’s defense industry and is manufactured by Dearsan Shipyard with domestic equipment, took place on the coast of Kurşunlu village in Karacabey district of Bursa, Turkey.

Ambassadors of many countries, military attachés, numerous local and foreign diplomats, guests, and members of the press attended the ceremony, which was hosted by Dearsan Shipyard and held in cooperation with Aselsan, Roketsan, and Yaltes companies.

The ceremony for the firing tests of SALVO, the fastest and most agile armed USV in its class, developed by Dearsan in collaboration with Aselsan, Roketsan, and Yaltes, began with opening remarks by Dearsan board member Murat Gordi.

The firing tests began with a CIRIT missile firing from a Roketsan turret system placed on the USV. The CIRIT shot, in which the moving target was successfully hit owing to the coordination of Dearsan, Aselsan, Roketsan, and Yaltes’, was followed by a large screen mounted on the mainland, which observed the shooting range.

Following the CIRIT fire test, another firing trial with an Aselsan-made 12.7 mm remote weapon station (RWS) was carried out, and the target was hit with pinpoint accuracy.

Dearsan-SALVO has an overall length of 14.79 m, a width of 3.83 m, and a draft of 0.75 m. Depending on the selection of diesel machines the new vessel can reach a top speed of 45-60 Kts (83 km/h – 111 km/h). It can be armed with a surface-to-surface and surface-to-air guided missiles system, as well as a 12.7 mm stabilized machine gun system.

In addition to these features, development continues on variants that can perform special missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence gathering. In addition to being operated by land-based mobile control stations or command headquarters, the SALVO can be deployed to naval assets, such as landing helicopter docks (LHDs), frigates, corvettes, and MCM vessels.

Naval News comments:

After hitting the target with pinpoint accuracy, the SALVO has become the 2nd operational ready armed USV of Turkey.
