The pandemic of the last two years has taught everyone the importance of the strength of health facilities. On the other hand, as the largest island nation, it’s important for Indonesia to have adequate and equitable health facilities throughout the country. The Indonesian Navy, through PT PAL Indonesia, is trying to realize and accelerate technology through innovation in the design of the Hospital Auxiliary Ship (BRS).

Following the successful handover of the BRS KRI Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 in early 2022, which coincides with Indonesian Independence Month, PT PAL Indonesia is ready to launch the second BRS vessel in FP2.

” PT PAL consistently supports the independence of the defence industry through the best products made by the nation’s children with international quality to be proud of. PT PAL appreciates the consistency with which the government, in this case the Navy and the Ministry of Defence, entrusts the development of defence equipment to SOEs, PT PAL being a state-owned company that’s a leader in the maritime industry”

Kaharuddin Djenod, CEO of PT PAL Indonesia

The event hosted the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ms Megawati Soekarnoputri. In her speech, Ms Megawati said that Dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat is an exceptional person. Although he’s great in medical science, his populist spirit remains restless and he’s dedicated to independence as one of the patriots.

“He’s a leader, and a very popular citizen. For his extraordinary services to the nation and the state and of course for his humanitarian work, especially for his contribution as a doctor, I propose to name the Navy Hospital Ship with the name of Dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat.”

The christening or launching of a ship is one of the most important steps in shipbuilding. The process of ship christening is marked by a declaration naming the ship Dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat and the striking of the jar on the hull of the ship.

After the BRS ship was officially named Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat, it was launched by Kasal (means Chief of the Navy in Indonesia), Mr. Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, by pressing the siren button symbolizing the first contact of the hull with the water.

“For Indonesia and the Indonesian Navy, the presence of hospital ships is very important. In addition to supporting OMP and OMSP naval operations, for mobile health services that can reach all parts of Indonesia in the form of an archipelago. On behalf of the Indonesian Navy, I’d like to express my high appreciation and appreciation to the Commissioners and the Board of PAL for their good cooperation in the construction of this ship, as well as to all parties who contributed to the procurement of defence equipment up to the Hip – christening and launching today. Hopefully, we’ll be able to carry out the next stage according to the planned objective.”
