The 2023 French defense budget reaches 43.9 billion euros (including an extra 3 billion euros) which represents a 7.4% increase compared to 2022. The 2023 budget also marks the 6th consecutive increase since 2017.
“This budget continues the massive investments in our capability program with 38 billion in military orders, as well as major deliveries: 13 Rafales, 2 batches of missiles, 1 nuclear attack submarine and 18 Leclerc tanks. These new credits will have to commit to the imperative transformation of our defense industry’s production model towards a “war economy”, and will have to guarantee our sovereignty by renewing our inventories, with 2 billion in ammunition orders. The increases in funding also directly benefit those who serve under our flag.”
Sebastien Lecornu, French Minister of Armed Forces
