Command AI press release
Comand AI, whose platform leverages artificial intelligence to accelerate the command and control of military operations, has just closed a 3 million euros fundraising led by Frst, with Kima, Tiny VC, and several prominent Business Angels also participating.
Comand’s founders bring a complementary skillset to the table: CEO Loïc Mougeolle, a graduate of HEC Paris and defence expert who previously led the disruptive innovations incubator at Naval Group, and CTO Antoine Chassang, a graduate of CentraleSupelec with nearly 10 years of experience in artificial intelligence, particularly in computer vision and generative AI.
He most recently worked at Snapchat, the famous social network leader in these fields.
“2022 will remain a groundbreaking year for the defence sector. Modern warfare, as exemplified during the Ukrainian conflict, is characterised by an increasingly high frequency of actions to coordinate and counter across all domains of warfare, requiring a radical change in approach. The example of the Ukrainian army is particularly telling: it quickly adapted by deploying innovative tools, such as the ‘Uber of artillery,’ GIS Arta, which allowed it to enhance the responsiveness and precision of its operations. Comand AI brings about the same kind of paradigm shift to the command and control of military operations.”

Artificial Intelligence is of course the other major paradigm shift of 2022.
“While the defence sector had indeed begun to catch up with the civil sector in the digital realm, so far it has only resulted in incremental military impact. Recent developments in generative AI enable us to leverage highly diverse and complex data to bring an element of surprise to military operations and allow to react in real-time to unforeseen threats,”

The mission of Comand AI is to provide the NATO armed forces with a next-generation strategic advantage. “What convinced me to partner with Loïc in co-founding Comand AI was realising the urgency to equip the women and men who are on the front lines every day, defending our democratic way of life, with a solution that truly meets their operational needs,” confides Antoine Chassang.
Comand AI is focused on the hotspot of military operations : the command and control of operations. “Our solution generates relevant battle plans in a matter of minutes instead of hours or days as is currently the case. This greatly enhances the responsiveness of our users in unforeseen situations,” notes Loïc Mougeolle.
With an operational context requiring increasing coordination and speed, Comand AI’s platform stands out for its ability to address operations conducted jointly in physical and cyber environments. “Our short-term goal is to plan a complex operation such as the Orion exercise in a matter of minutes.”
No player in the industry currently offers these next-generation solutions, but the race is on. In addition to its “AI-first” DNA, Comand AI also aims to differentiate itself through its dual presence in the UK and France, in order to serve NATO allies from the start.
“We have entered a new stage of globalisation, marked by a resurgence of the desire for sovereignty and a long-lasting exacerbation of geopolitical tensions. In this context, we believe that artificial intelligence has the potential to be one of the next pillars of deterrence in service of democracies,” analyses Bruno Rallard, founding partner at Frst
This fundraising will primarily be used to build a world-class team of 15 individuals, primarily experienced professionals in artificial intelligence and software development, as well as domain experts from the defence sector.
