EuroTorp press release
The contract will include a Land Based Test System as well as the TLS for the first three ships.
The TLS will be fully integrated with the combat management system of the frigates and will provide capability to optimise the launch of the MU90 Light Weight Torpedo (LWT).
The MU90 LWT is the leader of the third-generation of LWT. Designed and built with the most advanced technology, the MU90 is a fire-and-forget LWT conceived to meet the Anti-Submarine Warfare operational needs of the 21st century.
The MU90 LWT entered into service in Australia in 2012 and has been deployed on the Anzac class frigates and Hobart class destroyers of the RAN.
GEIE EUROTORP is a European Consortium formed by three companies: LEONARDO, Italy (50%) NAVAL GROUP, France (26%), THALES, France (24%) and is one of the world leaders in LWT and associated systems.
GEIE EUROTORP will be supported by Australian subsidiaries to provide local expertise and support of the installation of the TLS through a dedicated Enhanced Australian Industry Capability Plan. The plan aims to progressively transfer elements of the manufacturing process from Europe to Australia, ensuring knowledge transfer to the Australian industry and contract value flow-through to Australian companies.
