As defense cooperation between South Korea and Poland continues to expand, key officials from both the Polish and South Korean Naval Academies visited HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ (HD HHI) headquarters in Ulsan on Thursday, October 24.
During the visit, Polish Naval Academy Superintendent Tomasz Szubrycht (Rear Admiral) and South Korean Naval Academy Superintendent Lee Su-yeol (Vice Admiral) inspected HD HHI’s state-of-the-art submarines, including the 3,000-ton Shin Chae-ho and the 1,800-ton Yun Bong-gil. This inspection gave them a firsthand look at the solutions HD HHI has proposed for the Polish Navy’s ‘Orka’ submarine acquisition project.
HD HHI introduced Polish Naval Academy representatives not only to its world-class submarines but also to its comprehensive submarine construction and production facilities. Additionally, HD HHI provided an overview of its proposal for the Polish submarine acquisition project and discussed potential joint training and technological development between the two countries.
HD HHI highlighted its cutting-edge ship technology and structured personnel training programs, exploring further collaboration opportunities in the shipbuilding and defense sectors between South Korea and Poland.

Polish Naval Academy Superintendent Tomasz Szubrycht noted, “During yesterday’s visit to Hanwha Ocean, we observed only newly built vessels. However, here at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries we saw a range of capabilities – from the construction of the latest Aegis destroyers, frigates, and patrol vessels to the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) of large and medium-sized submarines, as well as regular maintenance of surface vessels. This visit underscored the importance of follow-up logistics support and provided us with a clear understanding of Hyundai Heavy Industries’ capabilities.”
“HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is fully prepared to be a crucial partner for Polish national security, with potential for cooperation that goes beyond the submarine acquisition project and extends into diverse fields.”

Earlier this month, on October 8, HD HHI hosted a “Promotion Day” event in Warsaw, Poland, where it received significant attention by showcasing its domestically developed export submarine and comprehensive solutions ahead of the Orka project bid.
