LIG Nex1 Press Release Translated by Naval News
LIG Nex1 has secured a contract to provide comprehensive naval solutions, including command and control, electronic warfare, and communication systems, to the Peruvian Navy.
The company announced that it signed the agreement with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) to supply key systems for the Peruvian Navy’s 3,400-ton frigates and 2,200-ton offshore patrol vessels. Contract valued approximately 60 Billion KRW (42.81 Million USD), will see LIG Nex1 deliver combat systems, electronic warfare systems, and data links by 2029. These systems will be installed on ships jointly built by HD HHI and Peru’s state-run shipyard SIMA PERU and delivered to the Peruvian Navy in stages.
This export project, driven by close collaboration between HD HHI and LIG Nex1 under the “Team Korea” spirit, is expected to serve as a model for the future direction of Korea’s defense industry. By leveraging their partnership and expertise, the two companies have proposed an optimized “Core Equipment Package for Surface Ships” tailored to the local operational environment and client needs. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the global competitiveness of Korea’s defense industry.
The naval combat system supplied by LIG Nex1 integrates the ship’s sensors, weapon systems, and communication systems, collectively referred to as ‘Sensor to Shooter,’ ensuring optimal mission performance and maximizing survivability. LIG Nex1 proposed a comprehensive solution ranging from mission equipment such as electronic warfare systems, which are central to naval combat systems, to combat management systems, ultimately securing the final contract. This demonstrated the company’s capability to supply an advanced ‘Integrated Naval Combat System Package.
In particular, the electronic warfare equipment for naval vessels is capable of countering a wide range of frequencies, extending beyond the typical radar operation range to include the millimeter-wave band, as well as detecting, collecting, and analyzing communication signals. This allows it to perform tasks such as wide-spectrum electromagnetic surveillance and electronic jamming. Consequently, it is expected to significantly enhance the survivability of naval vessels by not only countering the latest anti-ship guided missiles but also enabling early identification of electromagnetic activity, long-range electronic attacks, and interception of enemy communication signals.
In 2012, LIG Nex1 opened a new chapter in the global expansion of Korean defense exports by delivering the “Haeseong” (C-Star) anti-ship missile to Colombia. With strong support from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), and the Korea Research Institute for defense Technology planning and advancement (KRIT), the company has now taken a major step forward by securing its first naval integrated solution contract in the Latin American market, significantly expanding its business scope. LIG Nex1 plans to actively participate in the introduction of new naval vessels for Peru and other Latin American nations, while striving to ensure these achievements contribute to mutual growth with small- and medium-sized enterprises.
This contract, made possible through close collaboration with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, is expected to lead the diversification of export products, ranging from guided weapons to onboard solutions for naval platforms, and further solidify the global competitiveness of Korean defense exports. Based on close cooperation with the military, industry, academia, and research institutions, we will do our best to expand our market presence from Latin America to Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
