The Thai Defense Committee expressed keen interest in Hanwha Ocean’s comprehensive shipbuilding systems, which span from ship design to robotic automation applied construction technologies. The delegation particularly praised Hanwha Ocean’s proven ability to adhere to delivery schedules in naval projects worldwide and its commitment to technology transfer in international operations.
On their visit to Hanwha Ocean, the delegation highlighted the success of the HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej frigate project, one of Hanwha Ocean’s export achievements. They emphasized their desire for robust collaboration on Thailand’s follow-on frigate program, which is expected to be vital in strengthening the Royal Thai Navy‘s operational capabilities. Furthermore, they expressed optimism about the potential contributions of Hanwha Ocean’s advanced production processes and high-efficiency management systems to modernizing Thailand’s domestic shipbuilding industry. In response, Hanwha Ocean proposed strategies to elevate Thailand’s shipbuilding capabilities by collaborating with local shipyards.
During a tour of Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje Shipyard, the delegation visited the company’s Technical Training Center, where they met Thai trainees currently undergoing specialized education. The delegation acknowledged the excellence of the training programs provided by Hanwha Ocean, underscoring the value of the company’s efforts to nurture a skilled workforce.
Steve SK Jeong, Head of Hanwha Ocean’s International Naval Ship Business, stated, “Through this high-level visit from the Thai House of Representatives, we had the opportunity to share Hanwha Ocean’s commitment and vision as a trusted partner amidst Thailand’s rapidly evolving maritime security landscape.” He added, “By securing the follow-on frigate order, we aim not only to deliver world-class naval ships but also to enhance local industrial capabilities, contributing to Thailand’s economic development.”
Hanwha Ocean secured a contract in 2013 to deliver a 3,600-ton frigate to Thailand, successfully completing the project in 2018. The company stated that this visit has further solidified the mutual trust and cooperation between Hanwha Ocean and Thailand, paving the way for stronger partnerships in the future.
