The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) awarded a contract to Exail for the supply of unmanned surface vessels (USV) and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) dedicated to mine warfare.
Exail press release
Exail, a global leader in robotics and maritime autonomy, has been selected to supply multiple Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Mine Identification and Disposal Systems (MIDS) to the Indonesian Navy enabling a fully integrated unmanned Mine Countermeasures (MCM) capability.
The contract covers the delivery of four Exailโs Inspector 90 USVs, along with Seascan and K-Ster Mine Identification and Disposal Systems. These advanced systems will be deployed from two new, next-generation MCM motherships, (KRI Pulau Fani and KRI Pulau Fanildo).
All systems will be remotely operated from the mothership and coordinated through Exail unified Command and Control (C2) center. The C2 center, powered by Umisoft software suite and installed in the shipโs combat room, will provide integrated control software for both sweeping and hunting operations. Exail Umisoft software supports comprehensive mission planning, real-time supervision, multi-system coordination, and detailed post-mission analysis and data management.
โThis new success highlights the strength of our modular MCM solution, UMIS, which is specifically designed to adapt to the unique operational needs of each navy,โ said Jรฉrรดme Bendell, Head of Exail Maritime Systems Business line. โIts flexibility enables the delivery of scalable, high-performance unmanned systems, configurable for a wide range of mine warfare missions. This selection, showcasing yet another adaptable configuration, further reinforces Exailโs position as a key player in shaping the future of naval mine countermeasures.โ

Naval News comments:
The motherships for the uncrewed systems, KRI Pulau Fani and KRI Pulau Fanildo, were built in Germany by Abeking & Rasmussen. They were commissioned with TNI AL in August 2023.
Naval News understands that the German shipbuilder was pitching a unique SWATH (small-waterplane-area twin hull) type USV to go along their 60 meters MCM vessels (pictures above), however Exail’s Inspector 90 USV design was more in line with the Indonesian Navy’s requirement and was eventually selected, close to two years after the commissioning of the “motherships”.
This contract award comes just a month after Exail won a contract for the modernization program of the Republic of Singapore Navy’s mine countermeasures capabilities.
