Denmark’s Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) carried out live sea trials of SH Defence’s CUBE minelaying system on board a Royal Danish Navy patrol vessel.

Forsvarsministeriets Materiel press release

Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkรธbsstyrelse (FMI) tested SH Defence ‘s modular CUBE minelaying system for the first time at sea from the patrol vessel Knud Rasmussen.

The test was carried out as a minelaying operation in Danish waters and marks the first time that the system is used from a naval vessel. The test was carried out in close cooperation with the Navy and is anchored in the Danish Defence Innovation Unit (DDIU).

The purpose is both to obtain knowledge about future module-based minelaying solutions and to demonstrate SH Defence’s technology to national and international actors โ€“ including the Armed Forces, defence agencies and industry.

Denmark’s Materiel Director, Lieutenant General Kim Jesper Jรธrgensen from FMI, said:

“It is very positive and provides a great professional benefit to participate in today’s minelaying demonstration. As part of the build-up of Forsvaret’s combat power, a minelaying capacity must be created in the Navy. In this context, both sea mines and equipment for laying mines from ships must be acquired. This demonstration of minelaying is an excellent opportunity to get up to date on naval mines and modern methods of mine-laying. At the same time, it is very positive that it is a Danish company, SH Defence, that is leading the demonstration and showing what we from the Danish side can do in this area.”

The test involved the use of BLOCKER bottom mines as well as software provided by ATLAS ELEKTRONIK Finland Oy. The minelaying system may be relevant to the cooperation under the auspices of NORDEFCO. The BLOCKER naval mine from FORCIT Defence is part of the established cooperation in the Naval Mine Cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.

On 10 June, a mining symposium was held in Copenhagen with presentations and a panel debate, while today, 11 June, an official demonstration was held at sea โ€“ both with participation from several northern European countries.

Thank you to all involved units and partners โ€“ including SH Defence, the Navy, FORCIT, Naval Team Denmark and international guests โ€“ for helping to bring new technology closer to operational use.

Naval News comments:

Contacted by Naval News, SH Defence’s CEO, Rene Bertelssen, said:

” I think the sea trails that where done in the two different Danish waters speak for themselves,
The flourless, precise and effectively missions gives a pretty clear picture of future minelaying with either minimal manning or from autonomous platforms.
We at SH defence are proud to work together with the royal danish navy, DALO, Forcit and Atlas Elektroniks to show our Cube capabilities in minelaying along with our remote operated twist locks for sea fastening of mission modules and containers.
The equipment that was developed is now COTS and released for sale.”
