TKMS press release
Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Saab Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) – a significant step in their ongoing collaboration.
“This MoU with Saab Australia reflects our proven approach to naval shipbuilding and long-term cooperation with trusted partners,” said Dr. Oliver Juckenhöfel, Executive Vice President of Operating Unit Surface Vessels at thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. “We are proud to contribute to a robust and sovereign maritime capability with a model that has been proven by numerous navies,” he added.
The aim of the agreement is to identify opportunities for cooperation on the MEKO A-200 frigate program. The focus here is particularly on improving the capabilities of the ships through joint innovation and integration projects.
“Saab and thyssenkrupp Marine Systems have a long-standing relationship – together we have delivered advanced marine platforms in several countries,” said Andy Keough CSC, Managing Director of Saab Australia. “Saab offers sophisticated, low-risk and proven combat systems that are already in service with the Royal Australian Navy fleet and will support the rapid introduction of future capabilities.”
This partnership builds on the long-standing collaboration between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Saab Australia and underlines both companies’ commitment to building superior industrial capabilities in the Marine verteidigung space.
This initiative is in line with thyssenkrupp Marine Systems’ proven business model, which supports partner nations in the construction, maintenance and modernization of naval vessels at home. Following the successful delivery of the ANZAC frigates to the Royal Australian Navy and supporting similar projects for 16 navies – including six NATO members – thyssenkrupp Marine Systems is reaffirming its commitment to sovereign partnerships in shipbuilding.
