Naval News takes you on an exclusive tour of the SIMA Peru shipyard.
The facility at SIMA (Industrial Services of the Navy) located in Callao near the capital city, Lima, has been building ships and boats since the mid-1800s. Today, SIMA Peru plays a key role in the renewal of the Peruvian Navy (Marina de Guerra del Perú) fleet following an agreement with HD HHI of South Korea.
On April 16th, 2024, HD HHI signed a contract for the local construction of four naval vessels with SIMA, Peru’s state-run shipyard. The contract was signed three weeks after HHI was selected as the preferred bidder for the project on March 27th, 2024.
SIMA Peru is also currently conducting a mid-life update program for the in-service Type 209 submarines of the Peruvian Navy and will soon deliver BAP Paita, the sistership of BAP Pisco landing platform dock (LPD).
