OCCAR press release
The First Steel Cutting ceremony for the eighth Multipurpose Patrol Ship (PPA 8) took place at Fincantieriโs integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso (Genoa). The event officially marks the beginning of construction for the eighth unit of the PPA Class and represents a significant milestone for the Programme.
PPA 8 will be built in the Full configuration, the most capable version of the class, designed to operate effectively in all main warfare domains: Anti-Air, Anti-Submarine and Anti-Surface. This configuration provides advanced combat system capabilities, ensuring the highest level of mission readiness and operational flexibility.
During the ceremony, representatives of the Italian Navy as Customer, OCCAR as Contracting Authority and Fincantieri as Prime Contractor jointly activated the laser cutting machine, symbolically launching the vessel’s production phase, highlighting the strong cooperation among all stakeholders involved in the Programme. The construction of PPA 8 further consolidates the PPA Programmeโs progress and confirms the commitment of all partners to deliver stateโofโtheโart vessels capable of supporting Italyโs naval operations for decades to come.
