UK-based Chess Dynamics announced on October 28 that it had secured a contract worth around £ 3 million from Indonesian state-owned defense electronics company PT Len Industri to supply SeaEagle Fire Control Electro-Optical (FCEO) systems for two Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Bung Tomo-class light frigates/corvettes.

According to Chess Dynamics, this latest order completes the planned class-wide upgrade with SeaEagle FCEO systems, following an initial order PT Len placed in 2023 for the first corvette.

Chess Dynamics said the SeaEagle FCEO will replace legacy electro-optical fire-control equipment and be integrated with the ships’ existing 76 mm OTO Melara naval gun. Additionally, the system will interface with the vessel’s upgraded Thales TACTICOS Combat Management System.

Furthermore, the company pointed out how the new contract reflects its growing focus on Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific. The company has supported naval programmes in the region for more than 15 years, including in Thailand and Malaysia, and works with Owen International in Australia to support SeaEagle maintenance, repair and upgrades.

The company also published photos showing that a SeaEagle system has already been installed aboard KRI Usman Harun (359), the first Bung Tomo-class vessel undergoing the mid-life modernisation. They show how the system sits on elevated positions on the aft superstructure, occupying the position previously used by the aft BAE Insyte 1802SW radar tracker.

The SeaEagle installation forms part of a much wider modernisation programme for the Bung Tomo class. PT Len and Thales signed the original contract for the complete modernisation of KRI Usman Harun’s mission systems in 2020.

The package included the TACTICOS CMS, SMART-S Mk2 air and surface surveillance radar, STIR EO Mk2 fire-control system and Vigile Mk2 R-ESM.

Upgrade for KRI Usman Harun was originally expected to finish by the end of 2023, but the programme has taken longer than initially planned. The ship has been undergoing conversion work at PT PAL’s shipyard in Surabaya, with Nevesbu providing platform systems integration engineering and yard support.

In November 2025, the programme expanded to the other two vessels, KRI Bung Tomo (357) and KRI John Lie (358). In this view, the new SeaEagle order for the remaining two vessels is another step towards standardizing the upgraded combat-system configuration across all three ships.
