The German parliament has formally approved yesterday the procurement of four multi-purpose MKS 180 (Multi-purpose Combat Ship or MehrzweckKampfSchiff ) vessels for the German Navy (Deutsche Marine).

Lürssen intends to establish a long-term cooperation in naval shipbuilding with German Naval Yards Kiel. The existing military and naval surface shipbuilding activities are to be contributed into a joint company and led by Bremen-based Lürssen Group.

The German Federal Cabinet has extended the anti-piracy mission EUNAVFOR (European Union Naval Force Somalia) - Operation Atalanta - in the Horn of Africa. The mandate, which expires on 31 May 2020, is to be continued for a further year until 31 May. 2021. The Bundestag (German parliament) still has to discuss and then vote on it.

The German Navy (Deutsche Marine)’s Berlin Type 702 replenishment ship today left its home port of Wilhelmshaven for the Aegean Sea. During five months, it will join the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Brandenburg-class frigate involved in the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2).
