On July 10, 2025, Fincantieri held a steel-cutting ceremony for the future Multipurpose Offshore Vessel “Francese” for the Italian Coast Guard at the company’s Riva Trigoso shipyard.

This morning, the first steel cutting ceremony for the future UAM-GC – C. 6391 took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Riva Trigoso (GE), marking the beginning of construction of the Coast Guard’s new “Francese” multipurpose offshore vessel, named after Admiral Giuseppe Francese, former General Commander of the Coast Guard’s Port Authorities Corps.
Designed for long-range missions, the new Multipurpose Offshore Vessel (UAM) will be used for sea rescue operations, navigation safety, maritime traffic monitoring, marine environment and fishery resource protection, as well as supporting civil defense activities. It will be equipped with a flight deck for helicopter landing and low-emission systems for greater environmental sustainability.
The ceremony was attended by Admiral Nicola Carlone, Chief Inspector, Commander General of the Coast Guard, accompanied by Admiral Antonio Ranieri, Maritime Director of Liguria, and Rear Admiral Donato De Carolis, Head of the 4th Air, Naval, and Land Vehicles Department of the General Command. Also present for Fincantieri were Dario Deste, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division, and Antonio Quintano, Director of the Riva Trigoso–Muggiano integrated shipyard.
The new vessel, scheduled for delivery by December 2027, is part of the Coast Guard’s naval component renewal and enhancement program, representing a strategic investment to address the maritime challenges of the future with modern, sustainable technologies and increasingly advanced operational capabilities.
