DIMDEX 2022: Dearsan showcases “USV 15” for the first time

Turkey's Dearsan shipyard has unveiled a brand new unmanned surface vessel (USV) called "USV 15" at the DIMDEX 2022 defence exhibition, which is being held March 21-23, 2022, in Doha, Qatar.

Although Dearsan announced the USV 15 project in late December last year after completing the in-house design phase, the mockup of the new armed USV is showcased in an event for the first time in DIMDEX 2022.

The USV 15 is designed for a wide range of missions, such as surface warfare, countering an asymmetric threat, Coast Guard duties, SAR, and so on. The vessel has an open system architecture that allows it to be customized to meet the needs of the end-user. Therefore, the combat system can be configured to alter the firepower for different conditions and missions.

The USV could also be deployed on a naval vessel, it can be remotely controlled from any type of mobile vehicle, headquarters, command centers, and floating platforms. There will also be 3 different USVs with different configurations in the Fleet; 15 m USV Surveillance and 11 m USV’s designed in 2 different versions.

The USV 15 is a composite-hulled boat with an overall length of 14.79 m and a beam of 3.83 m. The main propulsive power comes from two diesel engines that can reach a speed of more than 50 knots, although the company states that the maximum speed can be increased to 60 knots depending on user requirements. Two water jet pumps are installed on the vessel. At economic speed, the range will be 300 nautical miles.

The attack variant will be armed with a stabilized, remote-controlled 12.7-mm machine gun and a stabilized turret weapon system capable of firing the laser-guided Cirit and L-UMTAS missiles from Turkey’s Roketsan.

The USV 15 will be equipped with an Autonomous Management System, which will allow the vessel to navigate autonomously. It will be outfitted with an Electro-Optical Reconnaissance and Surveillance System, including CCTV and a thermal camera to provide 360-degree surveillance.

The communication system on the USV is made up of a SATCOM and a wideband transceiver (LOS).
