DIMDEX 2022: Yonca Onuk Inks MoU with Qatari Special Forces for 4 More MRTP 24/U Boats

Turkish shipbuilder Yonca Onuk signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Qatari Emiri Special Forces Command for the delivery of four additional MRTP 24/U-class fast patrol boats during the DIMDEX 2022 defence exhibition held March 21-23 in Doha, Qatar.

Four years earlier, during the DIMDEX 2018 exhibition, a contract was signed between Yonca-Onuk and Qatar Special Forces for the supply of MRTP 24/U SOCs, 8 in total (4 + 4 optional). The first package, consisting of four MRTP 24/U boats, was delivered in the summer of 2021.

The four boats to be delivered (should the MoU become a contract) will be armed with two ASELSAN-manufactured 12.7 mm STAMP remote weapon systems and the MBDA Mistral-3 Short Range Air Defense Missile System (along with SIMBAD-RC launcher).

According to the shipbuilder, the MRTP 24/U Special Operations Craft (SOC) has a displacement of 5 tons, a length of 26.30 meters and a beam of 5.53 meters. Its maximum speed is in excess of 50 knots and its range at economical speed is 500 nautical miles.

Naval News visited the Yonca Onuk booth in the exhibition area and spoke with Mr. Yavuz Uras, Managing Director of Yonca Onuk JV, to get more infromation information about the MRTP 24/U boat and the agreement:
