IDEF’23, 16th International Defence Industry Fair will be organized in Istanbul, Türkiye on the dates between July 25-28, 2023, under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, hosted by Rebuplic of Türkiye Ministry of National Defence and supported by the Presidency of The Republic of Türkiye Defence Industry Agency.
One of the largest defence companies of Türkiye, Meteksan Defence, will exhibit its high technology naval systems at this important exhibition including sonar systems, underwater acoustic sensors, naval training simulators, electronic warfare systems and radar systems.
YAKAMOS 2020 Hull Mounted Sonar
YAKAMOS 2020 Hull Mounted Sonar System, with its improved technology, is a new generation medium frequency, surface ship Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and obstacle avoidance sonar, which is designed for the surveillance of the underwater environment to automatically detect and track underwater targets such as submarines, submersibles, torpedoes and mine-like objects.
YAKAMOS 2020 is easily adaptable to developing technology and changing acoustic environmental conditions with a more compact, more capable, modular, scalable innovative hardware and configurable software architecture compared to traditional sonar systems in the market.
The system, which is able to work with high performance for longer periods by increased efficiency of its improved power modules and system architecture, can also detect potential threats from longer distances by updating the sensor (transducer) architecture.
The system is being used in MILGEM corvettes since 2011 and was selected as the sonar system of Pakistan Navy Corvette Program in 2019. In addition to PN MILGEM project, YAKAMOS 2020 sonar system was contracted within the scope of different projects to be delivered to another Navy and for another platform. As of today, YAKAMOS 2020 has international references other than Turkish Navy and diversifying the onboard platforms different from MILGEM Ship. The user experiences of new Navies, platforms and operational environmental conditions are strengthening the capabilities of YAKAMOS 2020 Sonar and increasing the competitiveness of the system in international markets.
FOAS2 Fiber Optic Acoustic Sensor System
Fiber optic underwater acoustic sensors can detect very sensitively from long distances with their small size, low weight and structure that is not affected by electromagnetic interference. It is a new type of acoustic sensor technology based on the modulation of laser light going through the fiber by acoustic wave instead of conventional piezoelectric ceramic technology.
Fiber Optic Acoustic Sensor System (FOAS2), developed by Meteksan Defence, is a complete solution for the protection of areas against underwater threats. By using Fiber Optic Acoustic Sensors individually or in the form of an array, multiple operation concepts are driven for different terrains.
FOAS2 operates in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 2.4 kHz. Data from the FOAS in the arrays can be used for Anti-submarine Warfare (ASW) operations and diver detection applications.
NAZAR Laser Electronic Warfare System
Electro-optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) guided missiles are becoming more and more threatening for military bases, ammunition storage areas and civilian strategic facilities due to emerging technologies. NAZAR offers broadband state-of-the-art laser electronic attack capabilities against EO/IR guided missile threats to protect critical civilian or military buildings and facilities as its primary goal.
The system is capable of detecting EO and IR guided missiles and applying directed laser dazzling and soft-kill techniques to counteract such threats. So, EO/IR guided missiles can be neutralized from far away distances. Laser dazzling or deceptive jamming of EO and IR guided missiles is possible using either pre-loaded generic jamming techniques or special techniques defined by the user. The system is not only effective against well-known EO/IR guided missiles but also has reconnaissance and surveillance features to offer an advantage against asymmetric threats by its broadband operating capability. The system can be integrated with other sensors and systems to improve overall effectiveness. Installed on a mobile platform, the system may be transferred and deployed to desired locations easily upon operational requirements.
DCSIM Damage Control Simulator
Meteksan Damage Control Simulator (DCSIM) provides a realistic training environment to develop and conduct damage control exercises to provide the shipboard personnel as part of damage control readiness and the internationally recognized commercial and naval standards. DCSIM has unique features that are increasing the effectiveness of the training, operational efficiency and maintainability. The system provides standardized means to train the crew from basic up to advanced level with proper and comparable evaluation reports.
DCSIM has been selected by 5 different country’s naval forces and is currently successfully operational.
FTSIM Fire Fighting Training Simulator
Fire Fighting Training Simulator (FTSIM) provides effective and safe training in a realistic environment where members of the Fire Fighting team can take the role of a firefighter, practice tactics and procedures through interaction with fixed and portable fire extinguishing equipment in simulated conditions without risking lives or property. The more you learn, the more you will be able to contribute to the safety of your ship effectively.
Thanks to state of art and fail-safe design of the system, FTSIM provides a safe training environment with adjustable and controllable difficulty levels.
FTSIM is built in accordance with the current international Directives, and the Regulations for Prevention of Accidents.
FTSIM has unique features that are increasing the effectiveness of the training, operational efficiency and maintainability enabling how to identify the different classes of fires, how to extinguish them, and how to use and maintain firefighting systems and equipment; prepares the crew in dealing with an emergency situation that may arise because of a fire on board. It makes each and every crew familiar with the task he or she has to perform in case of an actual emergency.
DUNKER Helicopter Underwater Escape Training Simulator
The HUET Facility named DUNKER is designed based on the international standards & OPITO criterion for the personnel who regularly travel by helicopter to provide/ensure the skills and knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation where there is a need to exit a ditched helicopter and survive at sea.
For the purpose built, contemporary facility includes various distinct training capabilities to enable discrete training including Helicopter Underwater Escape Trainer, Portable SWET chairs for Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET), Simulated Rescue Helicopter to enable rescue activity and Simulated Landing with Parachute.
For the execution of realistic training, the environmental conditions like weather, sea-state, day/night time, and sound are simulated. The platforms for the simulation of rescue from the helicopter, landing with a parachute, and ship’s deck are providing a complete training capability.
In the facility including the pool, there are systems to simulate real environments like wave generators, daytime/night differentiation, wind and sea state effects. It provides the required means for the OPITO certified training of the crew.
PELIKAN RF Missile Seeker Simulator
Meteksan PELIKAN is a Naval EW test and evaluation asset designed to evaluate Onboard Electronic Defence and Electronic Attack Systems’ effectiveness. PELIKAN can be used for evaluating the effectiveness of a ship’s electronic warfare techniques (ESM, ECM, RF Chaffs/ decoys, etc.), simulation for Radar ECM development and evaluation, radar ECM testing & verification and electronic warfare equipment testing and evaluation. PELIKAN records all relevant data to enable a further analysis to be undertaken once the simulation phase of the trial is complete.
PELIKAN provides ship personnel to be trained in the use of EW equipment and in the development of avoidance and distraction tactics against simulated threats. PELIKAN can accurately emulate the behavior of a specific anti-ship missile’s RF seeker so that the system appears to be a real example of the missile in question from the target’s (ship’s) perspective.
PELIKAN can simulate a number of different missile types by varying parameters such as frequency, pulse width, pulse repetition frequency, gate size, pulse modulation, polarization, and detection criteria.
ULAQ Unmanned Surface Vehicle
ULAQ is the name of the Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) product family, which includes different platform types, capabilities and functions to handle various C4ISR and naval missions.
ULAQ makes these possible with its sophisticated hardware & software designed not only to enable full remote control capability but also to execute predetermined autonomous missions. Utilizing its autonomous algorithms and artificial intelligence infrastructure, ULAQ platforms can navigate safely, avoid from ships/floating platforms as per the COLREGs, regain lost communication and return to the base.
The command and control of ULAQ can be effectively managed either from mobile or stationary onshore sites or through afloat stations installed on ships. As a capable surface platform, ULAQ can perform and/or support the execution of Intelligence-Surveillance-Reconnaissance (ISR), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Mine Warfare (MW), Maritime Security (MARSEC) and various other naval, civil, industrial and environmental tasks.
ALACA Ka Band RCS Measurement System
Naval vessels need to reduce their visibility and hence maximize their survivability by ensuring that their RCS signature is as small as possible. Decreasing of RCS signature is necessary to ensure that a ship can successfully perform its mission while maintaining its level of survivability and ensuring its crew remains safe.
ALACA is used in the measurement of the Radar Cross Section (RCS), which is a crucial parameter in the protection of the naval platforms. The system provides protection data to platforms from fire control radars and guided-missile seeker radars existing in hostile platforms. ALACA enables to test the measures applied to existing or newly designed platforms to improve the millimeter-wave Radar Cross-Sectional Areas and supports to determine the operational scenario of electronic warfare countermeasures like chaff and decoys. ALACA has also the capability to create ISAR images of the naval platforms.
ALACA Radar Cross Section Measurement System is a solid-state based, pulse-doppler radar and operating frequency is Ka-Band. Radar Instantaneous Bandwidth is 50MHz and range resolution can be adjusted as 3m, 6m and 9m. ALACA displays the images of the target platform to the operator during the measurement with the High-Resolution Day / Night Camera and automatically records them at the same time.
