Philippine Coast Guard OPV BRP Gabriela Silang Arrived in Manila

After several weeks of convoying and a first operational mission, the Offshore Patrol Vessel Gabriela Silang built in France by OCEA arrived in Manila Tuesday, April 7th, 2020.

BRP Gabriela Silang left France following its commissioning in December 2019. The OCEA OPV 270 vessel was initially scheduled to reach Manila in January 2020.

However, the flagship of the Philippine Coast Guard was tasked by the Philippine government to conduct its first operation shortly after leaving the French coast. A rescue mission of Filipino nationals in the Mediterranean Sea.

On Tuesday 7th April 2020, BRP Gabriela Silang arrived in the Philippines and will now be able to transport patients or medical supplies as part of the Covid-19 health crisis, should the need arise.

The main characteristics of the OPV 270 are as follows:

• Overall length : 84.00 m
• Range : 8000 nm @ 12 kts
• Endurance : 5 weeks
• Speed : 22.0 knots
• Crew : 40 sailors
• Passenger and VIP : 26 persons
• Survivors room: 35 persons

The Gabriela Silang also features two jail cells, a sick bay, a command and control room with Nexeya’s LYNCEA combat management system, a diver’s room, helicopter deck and hangar for the Philippine Coast Guard H145 (an H135 for the deck trials in France), 2x RHIBS by Sillinger, passive and active stabilization systems, Kelvin Hughes navigation radars.
