The Directorate of Management of Marine Programmes (DGePM) will publish an official Request for Proposal (RFP) by June 30th.
The objective of the RFP is to communicate to the market and establish requirements and conditions to select the best proposal for the acquisition of an Antarctic Support Vessel (NApAnt), to be built in Brazil.
The acquisition of NApAnt aims to maintain the international cooperation commitments assumed by Brazil in the Antarctic Treaty, which culminated with the installation of the Antarctic Station Comandante Ferraz (EACF) in 1983.
The future NApAnt will replace the Oceanographic Support Vessel “Ary Rongel” in the maintenance and supply of the EACF and will provide logistical and operational support to the research projects of the Brazilian Antarctic Program (Proantar).
About “Ary Rongel”
Ary Rongel is an ice-strengthened oceanographic research ship of the Brazilian Navy launched in 1981. It was built by Georg Eide’s Sønner originally for a company in Norway. The Brazilian Navy acquired it in 1994.
The ship is equipped with a helipad and is capable of operating up to two UH-13 (other denomination: EC-125 or H125) helicopters.
