“The technology assembles submarines from big modules with equipment. It decreases labor intensity and the time of construction,”
Sevmash
The shipyard currently assembles submarines by units. The method was introduced for the construction of third-generation subs. Readymade but untested sections are delivered by the welding workshop to the slipway for the construction of units which undergo hydraulic trials. The sections are then separated. The technology takes much time.
The modular technology will decrease the time in the slipway and move major volumes of work to specialized workshops.
“The new technology was initiated in 2016 under the supervision of Sevmash CEO Mikhail Budnichenko. A taskforce was created and the USC launched a project to switch to the modular technology in the construction of new-generation submarines,”
project manager Alexander Spiridonov
Sevmash has upgraded production facilities and created new infrastructure. It will be necessary to organize new logistics of equipment supplies. The modular method is being discussed by involved ministries. Sevmash may become the first shipyard to introduce the technology in submarine construction.
