Navantia press release
The submarine S-81 “Isaac Peral” has been stranded this Friday, June 25, as part of the port test schedule to which it is being subjected after its launching.
The submarine is transferred to the dry dock to undergo the assembly of the attack periscope, as well as other equipment necessary for the correct operation of the ship in this testing phase. The submarine will remain stranded in the dock until after the summer, when it will be put afloat again.
This Friday is the first of the two scheduled groundings throughout the port testing period of the S-81, in accordance with the estimated needs in the planning. Sea trials will begin during the first quarter of 2022, with delivery of the submarine to the Spanish Navy scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.
The submarine S-81 “Isaac Peral” was launched in Cartagena on May 7, 2021, after a ceremony presided over by His Majesty the King. It is the first submarine of the S-80 series, destined for the Spanish Navy, a milestone for Navantia and the Spanish technological and industrial ecosystem, and an asset for the strategic independence of the country’s defense and for the international projection of the Spanish industrial fabric.
