“In the center of St. Petersburg on the English Embankment, a solemn flag-hoisting ceremony took place on board the large hydrographic boat Anatoly Knyazev. The event was held by Baltic Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Viktor Liina. On the instruction of Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, the ceremony was attended by representatives of the Defense Ministry’s Navigation and Oceanography Department, the hydrographic and navigational services of the fleets and the Caspian Flotilla, command and servicemen of the Leningrad naval base, cadets of the Naval Academy, representatives of the shipbuilding complex, clergy, and relatives of military hydrographer Anatoly Knyazev, after whom the boat has been named,” the press office said.
The Anatoly Knyazev will operate as part of the Baltic Fleet’s Leningrad naval base. It was laid down on June 30, 2021 at the Okskaya Shipyard in the Nizhny Novgorod Region in the Volga area. The boat is named after Anatoly Knyazev, an organizer and participant of the Arctic tests of the first high-latitude navigation system.
Project 19920 large hydrographic boats are multifunctional vessels with a wide range of capabilities. They are designed to conduct hydrographic survey of the seabed and water areas and service coastal facilities of the Navy’s navigation and hydrographic support system. The Project 19920 boat was developed by the Nizhny Novgorod-based Vympel Design Bureau.
