HD HHI Press Release
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is accelerating the development of export-type submarines through continued cooperation with domestic and international defense companies.
On February 28th, at its headquarters in Ulsan, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the cooperative development of an independent export-type submarine model with LIG Nex1. According to the agreement, both companies will cooperate in the development of an Integrated Combat System for the export-type submarine that HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is currently developing.
The Integrated Combat System of a submarine consists of a combat system necessary for detecting, analyzing, identifying, and engaging targets, and a sonar system that uses sound waves to detect targets.
LIG Nex1 is a specialist in the field of Integrated Combat Systems, with achievements not only in defense weapons but also in developing and installing the sonar system for the KSS-III (3,000-ton class) submarine and the Integrated Combat System for the KSS-I (1,200-ton class) submarine.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and LIG Nex1 plan to actively enhance the reputation of K-defense in the shipbuilding sector by developing a differentiated, independent model of an export-type submarine, based on mutual exchange and cooperation that leverages their core competencies.
