ICN – Itaguaí Construções Navais press release
The first sea trials of the submarine Tonelero was completed efficiently, and effectively. Our sailors, already experienced from previous immersions of the S40 Riachuelo and S41 Humaitá, achieved yet another industrial milestone, demonstrating the strength of ICN and the qualitative capacity of the new fleet of submarines that we are delivering to the Brazilian Navy. The static immersion maneuvers were carried out on October 25th and 26th, in the waters of Sepetiba Bay, near the Itaguaí Naval Complex.
On 25th, the stability test for the builder was carried out, the static immersion, which aims to calculate the displacement of the submarine on the surface and in immersion in order to guarantee the safe execution of the next tests, considering that now, it was possible to know the real displacement of the ship, whether sailing on the surface or submerged.
In preparation for this sea departure, several operational checks were carried out on various systems of the ship, with the aim of anticipating the next safety milestones, such as the functional check of the radar systems, observation and optronic periscopes, navigation, echo sounder, communications, cavitation and own noise, sonar and underwater telephony.
On Saturday 26th, the operation test of the rescue guardhouse was carried out, which aims to allow the submarine to escape in the event of its inability to return to the surface, thus ensuring the safe completion of the submarine’s first dynamic immersion, scheduled for January 2025.
