Teledyne Marine announced via a LinkedIn post on February 12th. that its department dedicated to the production of AUVs Teledyne Gavia has signed a multi-year Framework Agreement with the Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV) “for the delivery and support of GAVIA Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) for the Swedish Armed Forces.”
The post continues as follow:
“These state-of-the-art GAVIA AUVs, equipped with EdgeTech 2205 side scan sonar and Teledyne Flir Blackfly-S camera, will enhance Swedish Navy Mine Counter Measures (MCM) capabilities. The modular design allows for future upgrades with additional payloads like synthetic aperture sonar, magnetometers, and multibeams.
We are thrilled to support the Swedish Navy and provide long-term in-country support through Teledyne Flir AB in Sweden.”
The Gavia AUV is a low-logistics, and fully modular design. Each Gavia AUV can be equipped with a variety of additional sensor modules at the time of initial purchase or at a later date. This versatility creates an asset which can be configured for MCM, search & salvage or hydrography missions, without needing to be dedicated to just one task.
The value of the framework agreement is SEK 190 million (about $17.5 million) until 2028 with the possibility to get extended. The agreement is a framework agreement that can be used for call-offs by FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces.
The Gavia AUV has been selected by several NATO-member countries including Poland that is one of the most important user for defence purpose in Europe with the procurement of 5 AUVs the past five years. Swedish FMV highlights this system will contribute to the interoperability of the Swedish Navy with other regional navies.
This agreement will complement the recent order in December 2024 of new AUV62-MR from Saab also dedicated for MCM missions.
