According to a memo published by the White House and signed by President Trump, new nuclear-powered ice-breakers could be procured for the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to replace those currently in service and to keep an active presence in Arctic and Antarctic regions.

Abengoa’s solution was selected in Feb. 2020 by the General Directorate of Armament and Material of the Spanish MoD. The Spanish company stated that its AIP system will allow the S80 Plus to operate for up to 3 weeks without surfacing.
