The plan was a brainchild of the former RMN Chief of Navy, Admiral Kamarul.
Some of the goals of the transformation plan are a 40% increase in days spend at sea for ships across the fleet, an 85% average state of readiness and a total of 55 ships in the RMN fleet by the year 2050.
The three main objectices of the transformation are:
– To enhance the RMN performance through development of human capital
– To maximize return on investment from spending and increase efficiencies in enterprise process across all commands, formations and units
– To maximise Armada readiness, sustainability, fighting capacity and contribution to joint forces through optimum mix of capabilities.
There are today 15 classes of ships in the RMN fleet. The goal is to reduce that number to 5 classes:
– 18x New Generation Patrol Vessels (6x are already commissioned)
– 18x Littoral Mission Vessels (4x are under construction)
– 4x Submarines (2x are already commissioned)
– 12x Littoral Combat Ships (6x are under construction)
– 3x Multi Role Support Ships
Regarding MRSS, Admiral Reza told Naval News that he is “still negotiating with the government to make sure it becomes a reality in the near future”.
