Admiralty Shipyard press release translated by Naval News
JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” has begun cutting steel for two Project 677 submarines simultaneously.
The state contract for the construction of the third and fourth diesel-electric submarines of project 677 was signed between JSC Admiralty Shipyards and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in June 2019 during the Army-2019 defense exhibition.
The second Project 677 submarine, Kronstadt, was launched in September 2018. The shipyard is currently preparing the submarine for the second stage of factory sea trials. JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” successfully conducted high-speed and maneuvering tests of the submarine as part of the first stage. The shipyard’s experts and the Russian Navy’s crew worked on the submarine’s signage and heeling, as well as the hydroacoustic complex, navigation and communication systems, and mast-lifting devices.

JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” is upgrading the control system for ship hardware, the electric propulsion system, and the navigation complex on the following submarines in project 677 based on the results of the trials of the lead submarine, St. Petersburg.
The Project 677 submarines are categorized as the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines and are considered by Russia to be the most modern and promising non-nuclear submarines on the domestic market in terms of combat effectiveness and other performance characteristics. JSC “Admiralty Shipyards” is the only shipbuilding facility capable of producing this kind of submarine.
