Japan’s ATLA and the French-German ISL earlier this year inked an agreement to cooperate on railgun technologies.
Japan’s ATLA announced it has conducted the first ever railgun test firing from a ship, with the cooperation of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
The implementation of PILUM, an electromagnetic railgun project for artillery applications which can reach standoff distances up to 200 km, was officially launched on 23 April 2021.
Following calls for proposals launched by the European Defence Agency (EDA) in 2019, the consortium “PILUM” (Projectiles for Increased Long-range effects Using Electro-Magnetic railgun) has been selected to lead a research project on the electromagnetic railgun.
The European Defense Agency (EDA) and the French-German Research Institute of Saint-Louis (ISL) have just launched a research study on electromagnetic railguns in which 5 European countries are taking part. The study has been dubbed ‘PILUM’.
Following over a year of work and dock trials at the Wuchang Shipyard, the old landing ship 936 Haiyangshan, transformed into a floating test rig for the Chinese Navy’s new Railgun, descended from the Blue River for to reach the open sea by the end of 2018.
