LIMA 2019: Is it a fish, is it a robot ? Meet CETC’s FishBot-A100

Engineers are finding more and more inspiration in the animal kingdom to design next-generation drones. At LIMA 2019, held in Lankgawi from 26-30 March, the China Electronics Technology Group (CETC) is presenting a new concept of fish-inspired underwater autonomous system dubbed FishBot-A100

The FishBot-A100 is « a high performance underwater flexible platform with bionic propulsion », says CETC. In other words, this autonomous UUV swims just like a fish does by oscillating its tails and fin back and forth.

The FishBot-A100 actually comes with three different propulsion systems: propeller, glide and fish fin-like system. The propeller relies one horizontal thruster (10 kgf) and two vertical thrusters (2 kgf). Its batteries give it an endurance of up to 20 days submerged.

It can autonomously perform a wide range of civilian and military tasks, such as environmental survey, search and rescue, or ISR by collecting environmental data and recording HD videos. Data is being sent through 4G, wi-fi, iridium or acoustic to either a control center or another aerial or underwater autonomous platform, such as the CETC FishBot R300. The 5 kg payload is suitable according to mission request.

The 2 meters-long FishBot-A100 weighs approximately 20 kg and can operate at depth of up to 100 meters.
