OSI to Provide Naval Integrated Bridge System for Royal Canadian Navy’s JSS

OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) announced the signing of a contract with Thales Canada (Thales) to provide Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems (IBNS) for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) new Joint Support Ships (JSS) program, being built by Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards (VSY) under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

The Protecteur-class ships are a key part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be a flexible, multi-role, globally deployable and combat capable military platform able to conduct missions in both open-ocean and littoral environments. They will provide re-supply of fuel, ammunition, spare parts and other supplies between ships at sea and will be capable of transporting cargo, supporting operations ashore, and responding to threats in uncertain security environments.

“We are very pleased to be working with Thales and VSY and appreciate the opportunity to be part of this important project for the RCN. These Defence projects will create high-quality jobs in Western Canada and directly support OSI’s international expansion strategy, generating many more new jobs for Canadians.”

Ken Kirkpatrick, President and CEO

Under the terms of the contract, OSI will supply and install an Integrated Navigation and Tactical System (INTS) that meets the JSS IBNS requirements. INTS is a fully scalable, IMO and NATO STANAG 4564 WECDIS compliant Integrated Bridge System.  INTS has Marine Equipment Directive (MED) Type Approval certification from DNV GL as an Integrated Navigation System.  Among key industry standards that are met by INTS are MSC.252 (83) and IEC 61924-2 for INS, as well as MSC.302(87) for Bridge Alert Management.

In all, INTS offers a flexible design able to meet the requirements of demanding military environments and operations.  Centred around OSI’s ECPINS, the system integrates selected radars and navigation sensors, providing a comprehensive and cost-effective military IBNS.

In addition to the new JSS contract, OSI has built six systems for the RCN’s Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships program. OSI was recently awarded the contract for the RCN CSC program.
