Dutch and Belgian Navies to adopt new, bluer camo scheme

The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) will receive new uniforms from the end of 2020 under the Defense Operational Clothing System (DOCS) project, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced on December 19.

The RNLN replaces the current pattern for a new blue Multicam version. The new uniform was selected together with RNLN personnel. If everything goes according to the plan, the whole RNLN personnel will be equipped witht the new camouflage by the end of 2024.

An extensive list of requirements has been drawn up for the future outfit:

« For example, it must radiate professionalism, provide good seating comfort and be comfortable for the skin. Furthermore, the heat management, wash-ability and durability are taken into account, »

The Belgian navy is also participating in this project. « Given the close cooperation with our Dutch colleagues, we also strive to achieve maximum synergy and standardization in clothing material, » the Belgian Defence Ministry declared.  The Dutch DOCS project System will be tested in the Belgian Navy in mid-2020. The distribution of clothing to the “naval component” personnel will begin in 2021.
