The Admiral Nakhimov has been in the repair dock of the Sevmash Shipyard since 1999. Actual work on the cruiser’s repair and heavy upgrade began in 2013. After the repair and upgrade are over, the warship will get Kalibr-NK and Oniks cruise missiles and eventually Tsirkon hypersonic weapons.

“Work will be carried out on the Project 11442M ship in 2020 to take it out of the dock,” Budnichenko said.

During the next stage, the ship will undergo further construction at the shipyard’s outfitting quay and will be prepared for its trials, he added.

“Work onboard the ship is being carried in strict compliance with the schedule. After the ship is upgraded, it will receive a long-range precision weapon and powerful antisubmarine warfare systems,” the shipyard’s CEO said.

In September, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said that the cruiser was 50% ready and its delivery was scheduled for 2022.

During the repair and upgrade, the ship will receive the Fort-M (NATO reporting name: SA-N-6 Grumble) and Pantsyr-M (SA-22 Greyhound) air defense systems and the high-power Paket-NK and Otvet antisubmarine warfare weapons, Krivoruchko added.
