Part of her comprehensive set of sea trials, these latest tests assessed the ability for a ship to approach & remain alongside Aotearoa as a confirmation of the ship’s pressure & suction zones during refueling or replenishment

Both vessels were built by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Aotearoa will sail to New Zealand this summer to be formally commissioned. At 173 meters long, the future HMNZS Aotearoa will become the largest vessel ever in the Royal New Zealand Navy fleet.

BRP Jose Rizal is scheduled for delivery to the Philippine Navy in April 2020 although this may be pushed back because of the ongoing epidemic. Once commissioned, it will become the Philippine Navy’s first-ever guided-missile frigate.
