“We have calculated the cost of repairs. The total budget is in the limits of 300-350 million rubles. We are lucky that the fire had not damaged anything important. There are no grounds to believe that the accident will in anyway affect the completion of the overhaul of the Admiral Kuznetsov,”
USC CEO Alexey Rakhmanov
The overhaul is proceeding intensively. The aircraft carrier has to enter the dock as planned in the summer of 2021. It remains scheduled to join the Navy in 2022.
Rakhmanov said the carrier will enter the temporary dock built upon agreement with the Defense Ministry. It has to develop into a capital construction by 2023 for regular operations with Northern fleet warships.
The Admiral Kuznetsov began the overhaul in 2017 after operating at the Syrian coast. In October 2018, it was leaving the floating PD-50 dock of the 82nd shipyard in Roslyakovo when the dock began to sink. A crane fell on the deck because of list. On December 12, 2019 a fire broke out on the carrier. The Admiral Kuznetsov is currently in the 35th shipyard in Murmansk.
