Rohde & Schwarz has signed a contract with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia to equip five new F-110 frigates with external communications systems.

GMV has signed a contract with the Spanish corporation Navantia for development and supply of the SENDA navigation system for the future F-110 frigates. This contract bears out the trust already placed in GMV by the Spanish MoD on the strength of the fine work carried out in the development of a system prototype within the F-110 definition phase.

Italian defense company Leonardo has confirmed the selection of its 127mm LW Vulcano naval gun system for the Spanish Navy future F-110 Bonifaz-class Frigates.

The U.S. Navy, on behalf of Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customer Spain, has awarded Lockheed Martin a $519.1 million contract to support AEGIS and SPY-7 systems for the future F-110 frigates of the Spanish Navy.

Thales sonars and acoustic systems will provide the Spanish Navy’s five F110 frigates with a latest-generation anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability. The key components of the integrated suite are the BlueMaster (UMS 4110) and CAPTAS 4 Compact sonars, the TUUM-6 underwater communication system, and the BlueScan digital acoustic system already in service with other European navies.

The construction of 5 frigates will guarantee a stable and sufficient workload in the next 10 years. • The program will involve the modernization and technological development of Ferrol shipyard, placing it within the framework of Industry 4.0 promoted by the Government of Spain.

The Spanish Council of Ministers approved the EUR 4.3 billion funding for the construction of five new F-110 frigates for the Spanish Navy on March 29. The new frigates will be built by Spanish shipbuilder Navantia.

Spanish Minister of Defense confirmed that five new F-110 frigates will be built by Spanish shipbuilder Navantia in Ferrol starting in May this year.
