The Danish Navy Chooses Leonardo for Gun Maintenance

Italian defense company Leonardo has confirmed the selection of its 127mm LW Vulcano naval gun system for the Spanish Navy future F-110 Bonifaz-class Frigates.

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) will upgrade to Leonardo’s latest Osprey radar to support missions such as search and rescue, border protection, fishery and pollution patrols.
The U.S. Navy, with support from Northrop Grumman Corporation, commenced flight testing of the MQ-8C Fire Scout equipped with the Leonardo AN/ZPY-8 radar.

Following their recent selection by the Dutch ministry of defense (MoD) to supply new 127mm naval gun systems for the Royal Netherlands Navy’s LCF Frigates, Naval News contacted Leonardo to learn some more details.

The Dutch Defence Material Organisation (DMO) announced that it has selected Italian company Leonardo to supply new 127mm naval gun systems for the Royal Netherlands Navy’s four De Zeven Provinciën-class LCF frigates.

The U.S. Navy announced on Jan. 13, 2020 that AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation (Leonardo) was awarded a contract for $176.5M for the production of 32 TH-73A helicopters in support of the Advanced Helicopter Training System (AHTS) program.

Leonardo’s ULISSES system was used to automatically locate a number of simulated submarines in a live trials exercise. Ultra Electronics provides the software capability for the ULISSES system to provide accurate target location from up to 64 sonobuoys and/or dipping sonars. The successful trials mean that development is on-track to finish this year, with production starting in 2020.

With major upcoming programmes to strengthen its capabilities at sea, Australia has a trusted partner in Leonardo, who is exhibiting at Pacific Expo 2019 in Sydney, displaying the AWHERO unmanned platform.

The Italian Navy FREMM frigate Carlo Bergamini equipped with Leonardo’s MFRA was able to detect and track the launch and impact point of a ballistic missile. The MFRA radar demonstrated its ability to detect the full range of threats presented during the exercise.
