The "Isaac Peral" hit the water for the first time on Friday, at Navantia's shipyard in Cartagena. Pierside (harbor) trials is the next step, with various safety milestones, such as the loading of diesel oil, the charging of the batteries or the pierside propulsion test.

Abengoa has inked a contract with Navantia to supply its AIP system to the future S80 Plus submarines of the Spanish Navy. Abengoa’s solution was selected in Feb. 2020 by the General Directorate of Armament and Material of the Spanish MoD. The Spanish company stated that its AIP system will allow the S80 Plus to operate for up to 3 weeks without surfacing.
