
Navantia: Development of S80 Submarine’s AIP System Completed
Spanish shipbuilder Navantia announced it has successfully completed the development of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system for the S80 submarine program at the end of February.

Spanish shipbuilder Navantia announced it has successfully completed the development of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system for the S80 submarine program at the end of February.

Navantia has finalized on December 18, in the Cartagena facilities, the closure of the resistant hull of the S-81 ‘Isaac Peral’ submarine for the Spanish Navy, after the union of the last section of the ship.

Acting Spanish Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited Navantia’s Cartagena shipyard this week, where she has been shown the current progress of the S80 submarine program, a priority to meet the needs of Spain’s national defense strategy.

According to Navantia, its proposal for the Walrus Replacement Program provides a low risk solution with high involvement of the Dutch industry
