
Argentine Navy OPV Program Progressing Well

French shipyard OCEA launched its largest vessel to date, the OPV 270, on July 17 2019 at its shipyard in Les Sables dโOlonne.

At MAST Asia 2019, the defense exhibition and conference currently held near Tokyo, Japan, local shipbuilder Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (Mitsui E&S) unveiled its OPV design currently competing for a JMSDF requirement.

The Dutch shipbuilder Damen officially launched the first of two corvettes ordered by the Pakistan Navy (PN), on May 17 at the Galati facilities, Romania. The ceremony was attended by the PN Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Abdul Aleem.

Construction of the first of three new Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) ordered by Argentina just started at the Piriou shipyard in Concarneau, France. A first block is already assembled while official delivery of the vessel is expected for March 2020.

Rolls-Royce has secured a contract with Italian shipbuilder Cantiere Navale Vittoria for the supply of a marine propulsion package to a new Offshore Patrol Vessel under construction for the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM).

The steel cutting ceremony of the first patrol vessel (OPV – Offshore Patrol Vessel) ordered to Fincantieri by the Qatari Ministry of Defence within the national naval acquisition programme, took place today at the Muggiano (La Spezia) yard.

Following the enactment of the contract with Argentina, Naval Group has started off work on the four offshore patrol vessels, the French shipyard confirmed today. The first vessel to be delivered will be L’Adroit. Developed by Naval Group and built out of its own funds, this vessel had previously been made available to the French Navy since 2011.

On Wednesday 16th January 2019, the Armed Forces of Malta have signed a US$40 million contract for an additional Offshore Patrol Vessel, which will be named P71. The project of asecond and more capable OPV was launched in 2015, and has since then started to take shape.
