Aker Arctic will supply propellers and shaft lines for the new Finnish Navy multi-role corvettes: The Pohjanmaa-class (Squadron-2020 program)

On 26 September Saab received an order to provide and integrate the combat system for the Finnish Navy’s new Pohjanmaa-class corvettes within the Squadron 2020 programme. Here is an overview of the systems that Saab will deliver.

In accordance with Finland’s Ministry of Defence’s proposition, the Government of Finland has today selected Saab as the combat system provider and integrator for the Finnish Navy’s four new Pohjanmaa-class corvettes within the Squadron 2020 programme.

The Swedish Armed Forces (SwAF) recently delivered parts of Torped 45 anti-submarine torpedoes to Finland, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) stated on September 2, 2019.

Finnish Navy's Pohjanmaa-class corvette acquisition project is proceeding well after having been delayed by a change of government and longer than expected contract negotiations. The Finnish Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy gave its approval for the continuation of the process.

Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö authorised, on 21 February 2019, the country's Defence Forces Logistics Command to procure Raytheon's Evolved SeaSparrow Missiles (ESSM) as part of the surface-to-air missile system (ITO20) for the Pohjanmaa-class corvettes of the Squadron 2020 project.
