The engineering brigade of the Northern fleet will be formed in 2020, Navy sources said. It will be armed for a broad range of missions ranging from construction and restoration of infrastructure facilities to assault on reinforced positions. The brigade will comprise assault groups equipped with all-terrain vehicles, swamp buggies, bulldozers and tracklayers. The formation will also have sniffer dogs.

Russian submarines will get armored shelters equipped with water, electricity, and steam supplies. They are designed for Borey-class SSBN of project 955 and Yasen-class SSGN of project 885, as well as Lada-class diesel-electric submarines of projects 636 and 677. Each shelter will defend the submarine from bombs and missiles and even a nuclear strike, the Izvestia daily writes.
The Admiralty Shipyard laid two diesel-electric submarines of project 636.3 for the Pacific fleet.
Project 22800 Karakurt-class corvettes will become the basis for the development of small antisubmarine warfare ships. They will reliably defend the Russian coast from adversary submarines. The small ships will make it difficult to track Russian nuclear ballistic missile submarines close to the naval bases where they are the most vulnerable, the Izvestia daily writes.
The Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg floated the Ivan Papanin lead ice-class patrol ship of project 23550.
The Knyaz Vladimir Borey-A-class SSBN for the first time test fired Bulava missile in the White Sea, the Defense Ministry said.
According to ship spotter pictures, the “Academician Ageev”, first ship of Project 16450 class, was transferred under tow to a new shipyard for completion. The vessel’s official designation is “oceanographic research vessel (special purpose)”.
Russia’s Baltic Shipyard (Baltiysky Zavod) announced they have won a 100 Billion Rubles ($1.5 Billion USD) contract from ATOMFLOT for the construction of the 4th and 5th Project 22220 nuclear-powered icebreakers.
